Hopetoun, Fitzgerald National Park WA
There is not much to see at Hopetoun, it is a very small town with a nice beach and some extremely expensive shops, very quiet actually, think it is a bit of a holiday place for people in Ravenhoe who do not want to do the tip to Esperance. The main reason we went to Hopetoun was so we could cross through the Fitzgerald National Park to Bremer Bay and check out some of the National Park maybe camp a night. After driving about a kilometre into the Park there is a sign saying that road through the Park is closed, so it was a total waste of time getting of the highway to go down to Hopetoun. I cannot imagine whey the DEC can’t put a sign at the Hopetoun turn off letting people know that the park entrance road is closed from at Hopetoun. As it was we had been running into a number of other tourists throughout the day and they had done the same thing as us gone to Hopetoun to enter the park.So we turned around and decided to take a different entrance into park on the Northern end of Park near the Rabbit Proof Fence that according to our maps would take us down to Bremer as well.Thankfully this gate was open and we entered the park and followed the road right through to the southwest exit, about an hour’s drive, we passed a number of side roads going elsewhere in the park but these were all closed. When we finally made it to the park exit we could not believe our eyes but the exit gate was closed, can’t believe they let us into the park and allowed us to drive an hour to nowhere what is wrong with these idiots are they trying to get people riled up on purpose? We had a number of vans behind us that had already made the same Hopetoun mistake as us already and had now wasted another 2 hours and a heap of fuel, everyone was angry and had had enough at this stage. Thanks DEC Don’t you realise that if about 20 people make these same mistakes every day that is 80 hours of unnecessary driving and petrol consumption, so much for caring for the environment.DEC get some bloody signs happening and use a little logic and which gates to close and open.Anyway all the vans had to turn around and head back, but we just drove around the gate because we could, stuff them! we are only trying to get out of the damn park.
